Raul: „Schalke was one of my best experiences ever“

Gelsenkirchen.

For two years, Raul has scored goales for FC Schalke 04 and now he’s drawn to the far away Quatar. Away from the Ruhrpott. Away from the big european football. In his last interview with S04.tv, he finds again warm words for his “royalblue” employer. “These two years have been absolutely outstanding. I will never forget them and as far as I see, the people won’t forget me either.” He had enjoyed every single game and travel, he says.

„…almost like a religion“

”I felt really euphoric, because everything fitted so well with my team mates. And also with the managers, that had the faith in me. Everything was perfect”, so Raul continued. Above all he was completely sold on to the fans: “Everyone was telling me about it, but when you never seen in with your own eyes, when you never made this experience… At every game, how they live for their team - it’s almost like a religion, if we can say that. That’s really wonderful.”

„One of my best experiences“

17 years he had played for Real Madrid. He won the league, won the Champions League three times. Nevertheless he says: “I don’t want to flatter anyone here, but playing for S04, is one of the best experiences in my life.”

Raul wondered about being called “Senor” by the fans in the beginning. Despite some confusion at the start, it went really well between him and the fans: “I can’t find words to describe what the fans have given to me. I already told this at the press conference. To return the love, I should have scored a lot more goals. I felt like right at home during these two years. Like it was at Real Madrid in over 17 years.”

That’s a big compliment for FC Schalke 04 and their team.

Comeback not ruled out

Last but not least a comeback to the “Royalblues” is not ruled out. So Raul added to S04.tv. “You never know, what the future holds for you. My family and I have enjoyed living here for sure.” He further says that he wishes that one his sons will play for Schalke one day. On parting he adds: “Thanks so much for your cordiality. I wish you all the luck in the world, no matter what happens. I will always be a Schalke-Fan and I hope for the biggest triumphs!”

Raul is a quiet player. He doesn’t talk so much. He’s not like this when he’s on the pitch. When you see him on the pitch, he’s smart. Before he gets the ball, he knows straight away what he’s going to do. The young players can learn a lot from him.

[Off the field], he’s not the guy who drives big cars to show that he’s a big player. He’s really easy, quiet, he doesn’t talk too much. He talks only with the team to help the team. He’s won everything I think you can win but he’s a really good person.
